Prometheus opens many questions about human life, why human life is created, who created it and what was the purpose of that creation, from the opening scene of the movie, main characters intend to reach the Engineers’ home world in an attempt to understand why they wanted to create and then destroy humanity.
Last night I watched „Prometheus“, a new realization of director Ridley Scott. I really like the first thirty minutes of the film. However, the remaining hour and a half was a kind of disappointment. Disappointment became even greater, because in the first thirty minutes story really got me.
However, what I want to write about are not the bad impressions, but WoW impressions and questions, that this film and his ideas opened. The story is set in the late 21st century and centers on the crew of the spaceship Prometheus as they follow a star map discovered among the artifacts of several ancient Earth cultures. Seeking the origins of humanity, the crew arrive on a distant world and discover a threat that could cause the extinction of the human race. A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. The Prometheus lands on the barren, mountainous surface near a large artificial structure, which a team explores. Inside they find numerous stone cylinders, a large, monolithic statue of a humanoid head and the decapitated corpse of a large alien, thought to be an Engineer. Other bodies are found, leading the crew to surmise that the species is extinct. I liked the idea of two ambitious young scientists, who will do anything to get new puzzle missing.
I liked the dialogue of the young explorer, expedition leader and the robot- when the robot turns to the scientist with the words, you made me, someone has made you.
I liked the idea that somewhere in depths of the cosmos, is a planet and higher civilization that has built us. Towards the end of the film, members of the expedition aroused the only remaining representatives of a civilization that has made us and stayed with some purpose at the abandoned military base. Later we found out that alien is kind of a soldier with only one purpose and task. In one moment, after scientist woke him up, scientist asked him, why we were created. All of the sudden on that question, the alien became full of the rage and starts to kill one by one member of the expedition. In next scene, alien soldier enters the spacecraft, directed to strike the Earth and destroy the entire human civilization.
Why? Is it perhaps, the human civilization is just a project made by mistake or just some project of higher alien civilization made with a limited duration?
